Background and Research Interests

Gabriela is a member of the Ponciano Lab. She studies West Nile Virus at several levels of biological organization. She is combining laboratory experiments at the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory, mathematical models and field experiments to understand how nitrogen and phosphate can affect spatiotemporal variation in the prevalence of West Nile Virus in Florida.

She is interested in continuing to work with flaviviruses, with an emphasis on infectious disease surveillance and control in South America.
