Background and Research Interests

Ajit focuses on zoonotic diseases and cross-species transmission of pathogens. He is interested in using epidemiological, microbiological and ecological tools to improve the prevention and control of health problems in humans, livestock, and wildlife. In the long term, Ajit would like to integrate molecular epidemiological data with Geographical Information Systems and dynamical modeling to better understand how the distribution of novel pathogens and their potential hosts affects the risk of cross species transmission.
