Luke began to focus on pathophysiology and infectious disease while obtaining his undergraduate degree in biology. After college, he entered the workforce holding jobs in quality assurance/quality control for the food production industry, chemical management and logistics, and most recently in environmental conservation services at the state government level. He has returned to his hometown of Gainesville to acquire his Ph.D. in Zoology and is developing projects with the Pulliam Lab that aim to expand the scientific knowledge on host-pathogen interactions, particularly the mechanisms involved in viral cross-species transmission (i.e. host jumps).
